The attractions of Belgium

Belgium is made up of Flanders and Wallonia. Flanders consists of five provinces. The most famous is West Flanders with its beautiful coastline and beautiful renovated Art Nouveau buildings. Here you can get a breath of fresh air on the beaches of Knokke, Blankenberge, de Haan, Nieuwpoort or de Panne. Other provinces are Limburg, Antwerp, East Flanders and Flemish Brabant.

Wallonia also consists of five provinces including Liège, Luxembourg, Namur, Hainaut and Walloon Brabant. The beloved region, the Ardennes, is located in Wallonia. Each region has its own showpieces.

Time for action & culture!

The words active and Ardennes are inextricably linked. Abseiling, climbing, kayaking, mountain biking and survival are just a few of the many sporting activities the Ardennes has to offer. But also, cross-country skiing and even skiing in winter can be done in this versatile Belgium. In the warm summer you can take a refreshing walk through one of the many forests or through the beautiful nature reserve of the High Fens. Are you less sporty? As a cultural genius you will certainly find something to your liking here as well. A visit to Reinhardstein Castle, the caves of Han and Remouchamps is definitely something for you. What is the best way to get to your destination in Belgium?

If you want to explore all the nice corners of Belgium, we advise you to travel by car. The road network of Belgium is sometimes a bit hectic but passable. By car you have more room for your luggage, and you can reach the booked holiday home directly.

You can also come by plane. There are several airports in Belgium. The most famous one is Brussels Airport, which used to be called Zaventem. But also, Liège and nearby Luxembourg have their airports.

Do you like to travel by train? That's a good thing, because it allows you to reach Belgium easily. The Nationale Maatschappij der Belgische Spoorwegen (SNCB) mainly takes care of the national train traffic here. Do you want to get there quickly? Then take the TGV. This fast train stops in Brussels, Namur and Liège.

Hospitable Belgium

1. Belgium has a number of beautiful natural parks. There is one national park, the Hoge Kempen National Park, in Flanders. Through the nature reserve of the High Fens, the Voerstreek, the Vaalserberg and the fruit and flower region of Haspengouw you can take the most beautiful walks or cycle tours. The natural waterfall of Coo is definitely a must-see, as the river Amblève falls 15 meters deep here right into the center of the village of Coo.
2. Brussels, not only the capital of Belgium but also of Europe. If you visit this medieval city, we can recommend the following sights: Manneken Pis, this world-famous little fellow has been peeing for almost 400 years, also the royal palace from 1826, the Atomium, which represents the 150 times enlarged atom of iron, built for the world exhibition of 1858 and of course the Grand Place. This pleasant square with terraces and shops is the centre of Brussels. As a souvenir, don't miss the Brussels side.
3. Authentic and picturesque towns such as Durbuy, with its beautiful castle and old cobbled narrow streets. Bouillon with the medieval castle of Godfrey of Bouillon and Dinant with its impressive citadel. The Abbey in Stavelot also lets you enjoy the rich history of Belgium.
4. Did you know that there are many caves in Belgium? Certainly, in the hilly Ardennes. The Hotton caves are the most child-friendly caves. The Han caves are the most famous. A visit to these caves starts with a ride on a historical tram. In the caves of Remouchamps you first leave on foot but later on you can also take a boat for a ride. And there are many more caves in Belgium that will impress you with their natural beauty.
5. The spa town of Spa has its own thermal baths and is known for its spring water. When visiting these spas 800m2 of indoor and outdoor pools are at your disposal. There are numerous saunas, hammams and relaxation rooms where you can enjoy a relaxing light therapy. Spa is also known for its casino, good restaurant and of course the Formula 1 Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.
6. Belgium is known for its creativity with chocolate. The Belgian chocolates are known all over the world. Here they use the very best cocoa beans for their chocolate, and you can taste that! Are you also so fond of chocolate? Then a visit to the chocolate museum, Choco-Story, in Bruges is really something for you!
7. Maybe a little less known, but Belgium has a beautiful winter wonderland! In the picturesque towns you will find an attractive Christmas market around Christmas and you can go cross-country skiing and skiing there! There are small ski areas in the Ardennes that are great for an afternoon of snow fun. The largest ski area is Baraque de Fraiture with 2 kilometers of blue slopes. It is not high, so make sure to check for snow beforehand!

Antwerp Zoo is right next to the train station and is easily accessible by public transport.
